About the Halton Catholic District School Board
Nine trustees are elected to the Halton Catholic District School Board by Catholic school supporters in Halton:
- 3 trustees in Burlington
- 1 trustee in Halton Hills
- 1 trustee in Milton
- 4 trustees in Oakville
Trustees in Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville are elected at large, while Burlington trustees are elected by wards (1 & 2, 3 & 6, 4 & 5). Three student representatives (1 from Burlington, 1 from North Halton (Halton Hills/Milton) and 1 from Oakville) are appointed annually by the Board to represent the interests of students.
Halton’s 48 Catholic schools – 40 elementary and 8 secondary schools – serve students from Junior Kindergarten through to graduation. The Board also operates through its Continuing Education Services, an Adult Learning Centre with campuses in Oakville and in Burlington, which provide learners of all ages with a variety of exciting learning situations, upgrading programs and other courses.
The Board employs over 3400 staff, including 2260 teaching staff (1040 elementary, 673 secondary, 576 occasional/supply), 466 educational assistants and 684 non-teaching staff. The total number of new teachers hired to date for this year is 77 (44 elementary and 33 secondary).
The 2009-2010 approved Board budget estimate is approximately $265,473,081 million, consisting of operating expenses at $245,506,451 million and capital, related to pupil accommodation, at $19,966,630 million.
While the Board of Trustees establishes policy, the Director of Education through his administrative team, is responsible for day-to-day operational issues.

Our schools have strong links to parishes and assist the parishes with sacramental preparation, while chaplains and parish staff conduct liturgies and provide other services to our schools.
