For the past 5 years, the Grade 7 students of St. Dominic
Catholic Elementary School have created posters in tribute of Canada’s fallen soldiers in Afghanistan. The students have researched the lives of the fallen soldiers and written letters addressed to each family on the back of the posters. These posters are mailed to the families directly, where an address is known, or sent to the Prime Minister’s Offi ce for delivery to
the families. Over the years, family members from across Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia, who have received these posters, have phoned and written to our students to express their surprise and gratitude that Canada’s youth have not forgotten the sacrifi ces of their loved ones.
This year marks a fi rst - Mrs. Carol Mitchell, from Owen Sound, ON, will journey to Oakville to thank the students for their work and the poster created for her son, Cpl. Robert James Mitchell. Mrs. Mitchell will speak about her son’s life, commitment to country, and our current mission in Afghanistan.
The students of St. Dominic School have made a difference by their words, acts of kindness and creative talents, which have reached far from Oakville to Owen Sound, ON.
Welcoming Mrs. Mitchell to Oakville will be his worship, Mayor Rob Burton, Joan Gibb, representing Terrence Young, MP and Ellen Kuschnik from MPP Kevin Flynn’s office.
Mark your calendars—don’t miss this opportunity to thank and to remember.
