On February 23, 2011, Christ the King Catholic Secondary School was honoured by the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation by being the host school for The Inside Ride's 200th Ride For Cancer event. Christ the King students raised an incredible $30,000 to help benefit children and families affected by cancer.
Moriah Kolenda, a Christ the King student who lost her leg to cancer, formed a team and raced in this event. It was especially meaningful, because it was only the previous year when Christ the King hosted The Inside Ride event in Moriah's honour, raising $15,000 as a way to help her family pay for her cancer treatments and other associated expenses.
This year, expectations are even higher as Christ the King hosts its third The Inside Ride event on March 7, 2012. Christ the King plans to beat its own national record of 74 teams by having the students contribute 100 teams.
The Inside Ride is an indoor cycling challenge where students can form teams and race for mileage in an effort to raise money for children, teenagers and families living with and beyond cancer. Over the span of 200 events, The Inside Ride has raised over $2 million dollars to support children's cancer charities across Canada.
A professional video was developed of
The Inside Ride's 200th event and has now become the new national video for
The Inside Ride. Participating in
The Inside Ride is an example of the great commitment we have as a Catholic School Board to follow Christ’s example and call to compassion and generosity.
