On Tuesday, December 13, 2011, a Blessing and Dedication Ceremony was held at Lumen Christi Catholic Elementary School in Milton. Dignitaries from the Board, Town of Milton and Halton Region joined His Excellency Bishop Douglas Crosby in the Blessing Liturgy and Official ribbon-cutting.
December 13th also marked the Feast Day of St. Lucy, the patron saint of the school. Bishop Crosby reminded students, staff and parents to be the “Light of Christ” for others.
"We are indeed grateful that Bishop Cosby took the time out of his busy schedule to visit a number of classrooms," said Colin Simpson, Principal at Lumen Christi Catholic Elementary School. "He engaged the students with his pastoral life in Labrador and Newfoundland. His stories about his experiences with the Inuit culture and their diet intrigued the Grade 3 students who were coincidently studying the history of our First Nations people."
The morning concluded as Bishop Crosby and representatives from the Lumen Christi Student Voice and reporters from the student newspaper, “Flash of Light”, celebrated the day with a luncheon in the school library.
