On April 27, 2012, David DeSantis, Assistant Superintendent of Education: Student Success Lead, Anthony Lograno, Special Education Resource Teacher at Christ the King Catholic Secondary School (CtK), and Sophia Violo and Kierstin MacMillan, CtK students, presented the iPad Pilot that took place at CtK during the 2010-2011 school year at the Round Table on Technology Mini-Summit at Humber College.

The mini-summit was organized by the Teaching Learning Partnership and had presentations that covered the use of technology in both the elementary and secondary panels from various boards in the Greater Toronto Area and Golden Horseshoe.

The iPad Pilot at CtK involved two Grade 9 Applied Math classes and one Grade 9 Applied English class that required resource support. The students used the iPads as a learning and assessment tool during a specific unit of study. The teachers tracked attendance, behavioural and achievement data before the pilot, during the pilot and after the pilot to measure progress.

Sophia Violo and Kierstin MacMillan demonstrated to the audience how they used their iPads using the Dragon Dictation APP and various organization tool APPs to the audience.

The Board acknowledges Wendy Giroux, Department Head of Math, CtK; Erin McKee, English Teacher, CtK; Aldona Bubulis, Math Itinerant and Marianne Salvo, Technology Itinerant, for their excellent work in the planning, organizing, implementation and evaluation of the iPad Pilot Program.
