Family Math Engagement Nights!
In collaboration with our Catholic School Councils and Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC), the Halton Catholic District School Board hosted two (2) Math Family Nights on May 12 and May 26 for parents of students in Kindergarten to Grade 8.
The evenings were designed to provide parents with practical strategies and tips to support their children in learning Math.
Supporting Student Achievement
Our Mathematics Action Plan focuses on providing exceptional educational experiences for students in the areas of mathematics and numeracy. The plan contains mathematics goals based on student and educator learning needs, as well as early identification and ongoing intervention for students who need additional support in mathematics.
Some of the programs and supports that have been implemented to improve student achievement include:
- Mathematics Tutoring Programs - to serve as additional support for primary and junior students
- Home Mathematics Supports - for both parents and students, including school led enrolment for students in Grades 7-10 on Homework Help, and supports listed on Edugains
- Itinerant Support - elementary and secondary numeracy Itinerants are in schools on a daily basis to support mathematics programming
Offering Resources and Support to Families
HCDSB provides resources for families interested in fostering growth mindsets at home, involving mathematics and numeracy learning. Some of the family supports we offer, are in cooperation with the Halton Catholic Parent Involvement Committtee (CPIC) and school councils. HCDSB has organized Regional Family Math Nights, and a parent webinar - A Parent's Guide to Helping Your Child with Math.
