Registration Information for September 2012
- Registration began on February 21, 2012 and is ongoing.
- Student must be entering grade 5 in September 2012 in a Halton Catholic District School.
- In person only - parent, guardian or other responsible adult with a letter indicating they are acting on parents’ behalf.
- Registration to take place at the designated French Immersion school you wish your child to attend.
Space is limited! Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Transportation is now available for students in the French Immersion program meeting Board criteria.

Program
The Halton Catholic District School Board offers a French Immersion Program for students entering grade 5 in September 2012.
The primary aim of this program is to provide students in English language schools who want to work towards bilingualism with the opportunity to study French more intensively.
School and parents have had an opportunity to assess a student’s ability
Most learning exceptionalities have been identified
Students have developed a strong first language base
Older students are usually more efficient language learners
Students have had Core French experience
Students may have some input into the decision

Students may become functionally fluent in French by the end of Grade 12
Students find the two languages mutually supportive
Students learn about the culture of French-speaking Canadians |
Schools may be located outside of the home school area
Transportation is provided for students meeting the Board’s eligibility requirements as per Board Policy II-24 Home to School Transportation. Students from Grades 5 to 8 living more than 1.6 kilometers from the French Immersion regional site are eligible for transportation to the assigned school offering French Immersion. Transportation is not provided for siblings not in the French Immersion program.
