Canadian Martyrs Elementary School

Our School

Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School is a unique faith-centred learning community. We offer educational programs for children in junior kindergarten to grade 8. In addition to these classes, we offer congregated classes for students with formal identifications in giftedness. These congregated gifted classes are for students in grades 5 to 8 who reside in the City of Burlington.  We work closely in partnership with our parish church and community to nurture the Catholic Faith and Gospel Values in our children. Canadian Martyrs School has a staff of very caring teachers and support staff who work diligently to ensure that we fulfill our mission statement of working together through Christ to nurture success in our children.

Curriculum Focus

Our Catholic Curriculum invites our students to build their relationship with the person of Jesus Christ as witnessed by the Catholic faith, which recognizes the centrality of God, the dignity of the human person, and the importance of ethical actions. Our school teaches the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum with a difference. Our Curriculum is grounded in the Religion and Family Life Programs in which Catholic attitudes and values permeate each individual area of experience and learning in our school. We strive to educate the whole child to nurture their academic, spiritual, emotional, physical and social development.

Environmental Focus

Our belief is that we are stewards of creation. It is our responsibility to care for everything that God has created. This belief is the focus for all of our environmental initiatives. We have been a certified Eco-School for the last three years. Through the involvement of students, staff and parents, we attained Gold Level Status as an Eco-School. We make a conscientious effort to care for the environment through our blue bin, green bin, litterless lunch and ink cartridge recycling programs. In addition, we promote energy conservation at school and at home through regular communication by the Eco-Club.

Parent Community Involvement

Our parents are true partners in the Catholic Education of their children. We offer many volunteer opportunities ranging from assisting with reading programs in the classroom to organizing school-wide events such as the Dance-a-Thon or our St. Nick Workshop. Our School Council is very active and it provides a great deal of support to the staff through school improvement and parent engagement activities. Our School Council's main objective is to improve student learning in an environment of Catholicity. The School Council traditionally applies for and receives support from the Ministry of Education Parents Reaching Out Grant Program. We have received three grants in the last four years to support parent engagement at our school.

Community Use of the School

Our school is used extensively by the community for various clubs, groups and athletic teams.
