Christ the King Secondary School

Our School

Christ the King Catholic Secondary School opened its doors in September, 2002 as the first Catholic High School in Halton Hills. The enrolment in 2002-2003 was 635 students and today, in our tenth year, we have 1,600 students. We value a Catholic learning environment that espouses an excellent relationship with the community and our Family of Schools, student success, credit accumulation, literacy, numeracy and high graduation rates.

We offer a full range of courses in varied areas of specialty at the applied, open, university and college levels. This year, we have the greatest number of students taking Technological courses among all 8 secondary schools in our Board. In addition, we were successful in our application for the Communication and Information Technology which will allow students to attain a specialty in the different avenues of technology which will improve the value of their application to post-secondary institutions for such programs; as well, we are pleased to offer the first Sports Specialist High Skills Major in HCDSB. Furthermore, we offer a vibrant Arts and Culture Specialist High Skills Major. This option will allow students to attain a specialty in different avenues of the arts which will improve the value of their application to post-secondary institutions for such programs.

Christ the King offers a full complement of extra-curricular activities, such as Junior Band, Senior Band, Gospel Choir, Talent Show, 31 sports teams, Student Council, Student Athletic Association, Social Justice Committee to name just a few. We also offer a variety of field trips, including trips to Europe. We have an involved and committed School Council and we enjoy a strong partnership with community and local groups.

Student Success Programs

In the spirit of fostering continuous improvement, Christ the King Catholic Secondary School endeavours to implement collaboratively strategies that focus on the academic, co-curricular, and spiritual aspects of our school community. To this end, we have established a number of school teams that include administration, teacher, student and parental involvement.

School Improvement Team

This team creates the overall strategies that are implemented by our administration and teaching staff. These strategies are based on the information rendered from the Pastoral, Numeracy, Literacy, Safe Schools, Student Success, Data Collection and Celebration of Achievements Teams.

Chaplaincy Team

This team encompasses both staff and students, working with the chaplain to assess the spiritual needs of the school. The prime focus of the team is the ongoing faith formation for staff through planning Faith Day, staff masses and staff retreats. The team is also part of the schools' Crisis Response Team.

Numeracy Team

This team creates the numeracy strategies that our school will implement in an effort to prepare our students for the Grade 9 EQAO Math Assessment.

Literacy Team

This team creates the cross-curricular literacy strategies that our school will implement in an effort to prepare our students for the Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test.

Safe School Team

This team creates the strategies that our school will implement in an effort to promote bullying prevention in our school community.

Data Collection Team

This team collects, analyzes and synthesizes data used by the School Improvement, Student Success, Numeracy and Literacy teams to inform their decision-making processes.

Celebration of Achievements Team

This team prioritizes how our school will recognize the academic, co-curricular, and spiritual achievements from year to year.

Assessment and Evaluation Team

Curriculum Focus

The distinctive purpose of Catholic education can be summarized as follows:

  • to direct the learner to the person of Jesus Christ as the centre from which relationships with God, self, others and creation unfold;
  • to provide learning that is holistic and links moral and spiritual development to the life experiences of the learner;-to promote a way of life rooted in the Christian call to discipleship and service.

The student is the focal point of Catholic Education. Every Christ the King Catholic Secondary School student is encouraged to work and learn to his or her maximum potential. Moreover, learning is a co-operative endeavour shared amongst teachers, students, and parents.

As a Catholic Learning Community, we are dedicated to academic excellence, the development of each individual's interests and talents and the nurturing of the Catholic Faith. Students are taught to think critically, work independently, communicate effectively and show respect for themselves, for others and for the environment. By accepting the challenge of education now, our students will be prepared to meet the future with faith, confidence and a strong sense of their own self-worth.

The staff of Christ the King Catholic Secondary School, in partnership with home and church, is dedicated to helping our students respond to this challenge by encouraging them to discover the strengths and talents inherent in each and every one of them.

Environmental Focus

We are excited to renew our environmental commitment and fundraising program here at Christ the King! ThinkGreen is an environmental fundraising program offered within our school community to help educate the public on recycling while raising much-needed funds for environmental initiatives at CtK. It's a program that's good for our school, our community and the environment.

The ThinkGreen program is simple. Students, parents or community partners can collect used ink cartridges, laser cartridges, cell phones, digital cameras and laptops from the community and drop them off in the Main Office at CtK. As a result our school will earn funds for each qualifying item returned.

Through partnerships with The Tree Canada Foundation, and American Forests, ThinkGreen will sponsor the planting of one tree for every Twenty-Four rebated cartridges or cell phones collected.

We request your support in ensuring the success of this cost-free fundraising program.

Your place of employment can also support Christ the King by saving used cartridges, cell phones, digital cameras and laptops and returning them to the Main Office at CtK.

Your support of the ThinkGreen program will help support our commitments to environmental awareness and Eco-Schools initiatives and certification.
