Our Lady of Victory Elementary School

Our School

Our Lady of Victory Catholic School is a Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8 Catholic elementary school within the Halton Catholic District School Board.

The school, located at 540 Commercial Street in southwest Milton, first opened its doors to students in the fall of 1984 thanks to the support of Milton Board Trustees Angelo Tonelli and Neville Johnston and Halton Roman Catholic Separate School Board Chair Father James Mihm. Students who had previously attended Holy Rosary School now had a local neighbourhood school to call their own. The school was named after Our Lady of Victory Church on Tremaine Road in Milton Heights which opened in 1942 and was a satellite mission associated with St. John's Parish in Burlington as early as 1925.

The official blessing and dedication of the school by Bishop Anthony Tonnos took place on November 5, 1984 at which time, a time capsule was buried. Students marked this special school day by releasing helium balloons with a greeting card attached announcing the grand opening (fact: the message reached as far as Renfrew, Ontario).

2009-2010 marked the school's 25th anniversary. The time capsule buried on November 5, 1984 was opened 25 years to the day on November 5, 2009. A number of former staff and students were in attendance. A special Mass at Holy Rosary Church and a reunion celebration at the school took place on May 5, 2010 - the 5th day of the 5th month in the 25th year of the school's existence!

Curriculum Focus

Our Mission Statement... "Our Lady of Victory Catholic School together with Home, Church, and Community, encourages within each child a love for learning and a desire to do one's best." ...is integral to the daily life of our school. Our Lady of Victory School is a place where minds can be opened to learning, where students are allowed to grow and where working together with the home and the parish provides students with skills necessary to help them succeed not only in school but ultimately, in life. Working together, we can provide the best possible Catholic education for each and every one of our students!

Environmental Focus

In an effort to reduce waste at our school using our Blue Bins and Green Carts and promote our Eco-School initiatives, we have been advocating litterless lunches. We have been trying to raise awareness on reusing containers, recycling items, as well as trying to reduce the amount of packaging that we use. Students have been asked not to put open containers of food or drinks back into their bags;however, they have been encouraged to finish their lunches (not throw parts away) and take home any type of packaging that could be reused, etc. We all need to work together for our environment to reduce our carbon footprint. Last year, we achieved BRONZE status through the Eco-School program - this year, we're going for GOLD!

Parent Community Involvement

Volunteers play an integral role as partners in education at Our Lady of Victory School. Coordinated by teachers and/or volunteer committee chairs, volunteers make a difference at our school. Volunteer activities are a welcome and valued resource because of their wide reaching benefit to students, the school, the school system, and to the volunteers themselves.
