St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School

Our School

Our patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi, lived hundreds of years ago, and yet, what he stood for in the fifteen hundreds, still holds true today.  St. Francis is famous for saying "Pray always and if necessary, use words".  With these words, he tells us that our Faith should be one of action, and should not require words, if we live it correctly.

At St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Elementary School, we pride ourselves in not only providing quality education as prescribed by the Ministry of Education, but quality Catholic education as witnesses to Jesus in our world.  Catholic virtues, our Focus on Faith yearly themes and the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations are at the core of everything we do.

Student Success Programs

"Learning to 18" has been used by the Ontario Government as a strategy in fulfilling its mandate in making the school experience a positive one for all students- an experience leading to achievement that will help all students become productive members of society.

Our Catholic perspective has always been that student are life-long learners and so it is with this in mind that teachers program for every student based on the Board and the School Improvement plans, daily work results, benchmark, report card and EQAO data.  This information, in turn, is used to inform instruction through the construction of appropriate pathways and differentiated instruction within these pathways to match every student's learning style.

Teachers are always vigilant in ensuring that every child is achieving to potential and advocating for their students in ensuring they receive the required supports for success.

Curriculum Focus

The success of every student is at the heart of our work at St. Francis.  All curriculum-based staff, from classroom teachers, subject specialists, to educational assistants and Special Education Resource teachers make it their work to advocate for student needs.

Steps taken toward the identification of students in need of extra attention have proven very successful in ensuring that students meet with academic success and, in turn, attain the level of engagement which makes them eager to work on progressively more challenging goals.

Environmental Focus

The environment is very important to us at St. Francis.  our environmental club, the "EcoFalcons" pride themselves on being able to identify issues that make us better stewards of our environment and involve the student body in these initiatives.  In the past we have partnered with Wal-Mart in beautifying the front of our building with flowers.  We are a Silver Echostar school!

Parent Community Involvement

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Elementary School enjoys the help and support of a great many parent volunteers.

Volunteer activities range from providing help at home with classroom decor and supports, to in-school involvement at the classroom and whole-school levels, to supporting extended school activities such as field trip participation.

Our Catholic School Council is an active and enthusiastic group.

Community Use of the School

Our School is booked every night of the week with programs ranging from International Languages to various sporting initiatives.
