St. John (Burlington) Elementary School

Our School

St. John Catholic School has been part of the fabric of Burlington since 1948.  The school was rebuilt in 1996 on the original sight and has served the students of downtown Burlington with distinction for over 60 years. 

St. John Catholic school embodies a philosophy that fosters the spiritual, academic, social and emotional development of our students. Through the teachings of Jesus and the home, school, parish partnership, our students have the opportunity to live out the Gospel values.​

Student Success Programs

​At St. John Catholic School we have run an EQAO preparation course for interested students as well as a lunchtime homework club for intermediate students.  We are also fortunate to be able to offer extra literacy and numeracy support for some of our primary students.

Curriculum Focus

​The key focus at St. John Catholic School is continued student success.  The staff uses a variety of precision teaching strategies to challenge students to achieve their best.  An emphasis on differentiated instruction as well as current assessment and evaluation practices form the core of our instruction. 

Our School Improvement Plan identifies particular areas of need and practices are designed to address any needs.

Environmental Focus

​At St. John Catholic School, we promote stewardship of the earth as part of our responsibility to protect God's gift of our planet.  We have achieved an Eco-Silver award and we have an enthusiastic eco team who have led initiatives in composting, waste reducing, the re-using of items and recycling. 

We have also taken part in initiatives such as Ryan's Well and promoting the importance of water as an essential human right. 

Parent Community Involvement

​We are fortunate to have a network of parents who work collaboratively with our staff.  Parents run our lunch programs and our Food For Thought Healthy Snack/Basket Program, they participate as part of our Catholic School Council, they assist with coaching teams, fundraising, community building as well as helping in the classroom and library

Community Use of the School

​St. John Catholic School is regularly used by the community for various sports and activities.
