St. Marguerite d'Youville Elementary School

Our School

St. Marguerite d'Youville Catholic School is a special place.  We are blessed to have a group of the most talented, dedicated and faith-filled educators!  Our staff provides our students with exciting and enriching opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom.  Our parent community are truly our partners in Catholic education. They generously volunteer their time and talents to assist us in anyway they can, from lunch and milk programs to school trips and healthy school activities.  We appreciate their contributions immensely.  Our students are very special!  They conduct themselves with dignity and self-respect.  They are hard working, polite and kind.  They are a reflection of their supportive and loving parents and a dedicated and talented group of educators.  St. Marguerite d'Youville is community of faith.  We are united in our commitment to  follow Christ's example and to teach our children to be models of humility and compassion by exemplifying service to others.

Student Success Programs

Student success is always a priority  at St. Marguerite.  Our teachers work diligently to meet the diverse needs of every student in their classes.  In addition, we offer supports such as All Star Reading, Grades 3 and 6 after school literacy and numeracy groups, and intermediate math help groups.  In addition we offer an After Reading School program where the students have the opportunity to work with an adult on developing both reading fluency skills and reading comprehension skills in small groups. They do this by working on identifying and restating the main idea in a piece of writing and citing supporting details.

The students also work on a variety of strategies to determine the meaning and sound of unfamiliar words (e.g. use the context, break words into syllables or smaller words or other recognizable units like sh, ing etc.).

The program is designed to help the students consolidate their reading strategies so that they can become independent, self-directed and successful readers.
