| Friday, July 03, 2009 Ontario is expanding literacy and basic skills programs in Oakville. The province is investing an additional $165,266 in funding in two organizations providing literacy training in Oakville. Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and the Halton Catholic District School Board are receiving additional funding to expand literacy and essential skills training so more Ontarians can train for more high-skill jobs. |

| Thursday, July 02, 2009 The Halton Catholic and Halton District School Boards are establishing a joint Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee (AEAC). The purpose of this committee will be to provide ongoing advice to the boards on matters relating to the education of Aboriginal students and to assist the school boards in identifying the needs of the Aboriginal communities in Halton. The deadline for applications has been extended to July 31, 2009. |

| Friday, May 29, 2009 On May 28, 2009, First Student Canada informed Halton Student Transportation Services (HSTS) that it had reached a settlement with CUPE Local 2177, and that a strike had been averted. HSTS and its member Boards are very pleased that the two sides were able to reach an agreement and that service to students in the Burlington and Oakville communities will not be disrupted. |

| Thursday, May 21, 2009 Halton Student Transportation Services (HSTS) is advising school administrators and parents in Burlington and Oakville that school bus drivers at First Student Canada, Burlington Branch, who are represented by CUPE Local 2177, will be in a legal strike position on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 12:01 a.m. HSTS and its member school boards are hopeful that both sides will continue to work diligently toward a settlement in order to avert a strike. | Tuesday, April 07, 2009 On Wednesday, April 1, 2009, the Bishop Reding Robotics Challenge was held at Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School in Milton, with about one hundred Grade 7 and 8 students participating from across the Halton Catholic District School Board. By all accounts the day was an overwhelming success! The participants took on eight different challenges, which included two different 'maze' tables, a relay race, a triathlon, a 'hay bale' tossing challenge and more! | Monday, March 30, 2009 The hard work paid off in a big way for participants of the 49th Annual Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair where 278 student exhibitors competed for cash, prizes and scholarships amounting to more than $120,000. The fair, hosted this year by Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology, came to a close on March 28, 2009, after three days of monumental effort by participants, organizers, judges and volunteers. The Halton Catholic District School Board congratulates Notre Dame Secondary School students Sophia Coulter-English and Gillian Walczak for winning the Canada Wide Science Fair Trip Award for the second consecutive year, as well as numerous other awards at this year's fair. Students in the Halton Catholic District School Board continue to do very well compared to the provincial standard (Level 3). |

| Wednesday, September 17, 2008 The Halton Catholic District School Board released today its Board and individual secondary school results of the 2008 Grade 9 Mathematics assessment conducted by the provincial Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO). The assessment was conducted in each semester of the last school year (January and June, 2008). A total of 2,198 Grade 9 students of the Board's seven secondary schools at the time were eligible to participate. 1,701 students completed the Academic assessment and 474 students participated in the Applied testing. |

| Friday, December 07, 2007 The Halton Catholic District School Board is very proud to announce that Kayla Cornale, a 2007 graduate of Assumption Catholic Secondary School in Burlington, has been selected as the award honouree in the Young Wonders category of the 2007 CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute. Kayla, the only Canadian finalist, was nominated for this award by her former teacher and mentor, Kathy Perino at St. Paul Catholic Elementary School, in recognition of Kayla's academic and extra-curricular achievements, as well as her work and research in Sounds Into Syllables - a teaching tool that she invented for individuals with autism that links language to sounds to improve thier communications. The CNN Heroes initiative recognized ordinary people for accomplishing extraordinary things. There were six categories with three finalists in each. During this first year of the initiative, CNN received more than 7,000 nominations from viewers in 80 countries. The Award Honouree in each category was announced during a two hour CNN gala show, CNN Heroes: All All-Star Tribute, which aired around the world on December 6, 2007 at 9:00 p.m., and was hosted by CNN's Anderson Cooper and Christiane Amanpour at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Kayla was awarded $25,000 in addition to the $10,000 she received as a finalist. She is currently pursuing her post-secondary studies in Science at Stanford University in California. |

Her term of office is effective until December, 2010. Arlene Iantomasi will be installed as a Trustee of the Halton Catholic District School Board at the December 4, 2007 Regular Meeting of the Board. The Very Reverend R. Formosi, the Dean of the Halton Catholic Churches and Pastor of St. Dominic Church and the Honourable Mr. Justice J. Fragomeni, Central West Superior Court of Justice, will officiate. A realtor with Royal LePage Burloak Real Estate Services since 2004 and Community Member for the Office of the Commissioner for Review Tribunals, Canada Pension disability and O.A.S. appeals since 2002, Arlene Iantomasi has been an active member of the Holy Rosary Elementary Catholic School Council for six years. She has also served on the Assumption Secondary Catholic School Council since 2005 and as its Co-Chair since 2006. | Friday, November 02, 2007 The Halton Regional Police Service are continuing their investigation into four reports of a suspicious man in the area of Halton Hills elementary schools as outlined in the November 1, 2007 Police News Release and Letter to Parents of Georgetown Elementary Students. Later the same afternoon, the Police announced by a news release that the October 29, 2007 incident reported at St. Brigid School did not occur. The Georgetown schools of the Halton Catholic District School Board are steadfast in their daily commitment to safety and security measures of their facility and the staff have reviewed with students appropriate street safety practices to exercise if approached by a stranger. The Board is working diligently along with the Halton Regional Police Service, the Halton District School Board and the French and private schools in Georgetown to ensure the safety of the children while at school. An increase of police presence in the area of schools during school hours and an increase of staff supervision of children by the schools occurred immediately upon receipt of the initial report. Although no incident has occurred where a child has been victimized, the Halton Police, working with school staff as well as crossing guards, are committed to identifying the individual involved in these incidents and determining the risk if any to the community. The Halton Police are asking anyone with information on any beige, gray, champagne or similarly coloured SUV with a licence plate starting with an "A" and containing numbers 175 (A---175) that is observed in the Georgetown area to contact investigators. Anyone with information on the identity of the man is asked to call police at (905) 825-4777 Ext. 2420 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). On November 2, 2007, the Halton Regional Police provided follow-up media announcementsto the local Georgetown newspaper as well as local radio and television stations regarding this ongoing investigation and request for public assistance. |

| Wednesday, September 19, 2007 The Halton Catholic District School Board released today its Board and individual secondary school results of the 2007 Grade 9 Mathematics assessment conducted by the provincial EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office). A total of 2,276 Grade 9 students of the Board's seven secondary schools participated in the assessment, which was conducted in each semester of the last school year (January, 2007 and June, 2007). 1,775 students participated in the Academic assessment and 501 students completed the Applied testing. |

The advisory will remain in effect until further notice. During the smog episode, individuals may experience eye irritation. Heavy outdoor exercise may cause respiratory symptoms, such as coughing or shortness of breath. | Wednesday, June 27, 2007 Conservation Halton advises that the Weather Office has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for our area. The cold front, which is associated with the potential thunderstorm activity, is expected to pass through our region this afternoon and through the evening. These storms have the potential to produce torrential downpours and hail, rainfall amounts of greater than 50mm/hour are possible where storms reach the severe thunderstorm threshold. Please alert any children under your care to these dangerous conditions and supervise their activities. |

The results indicate that a significantly greater percentage of our Grade 10 students have been successful on the OSSLT compared to the provincial success rate. |

| Tuesday, May 15, 2007 On Wednesday, May 16, at 9:00 a.m. the Toronto Blue Jays and the Halton Catholic District School Board are teaming up to provide a unique baseball experience for 125 special needs elementary students and their peer mentors at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. In the spirit of inclusion, tolerance and goodwill, this year's theme is "Everyone Belongs." All participants and peer mentors will be able to play in an adapted baseball game, feel the crack of the bat at the hitting station and experience the thrill of throwing out base runners at the throwing station. Participants will even have the chance to meet Blue Jays mascot Ace and other surprise visitors from the team and community. |
