Charter Challenge 2006

The Charter Challenge is an online simulation for High School students.  It has been created to help students gain a better understanding of the Canadian Charter of Right and Freedoms. It will involve students in a collaborative, decision-making situation based on a real-world scenario. Activities are tied directly to curriculum. The target audience is High School students in Grades 9-12.

The final activity in this year's project will be an online videoconference event that will take place as part of the Law Week activities in Ontario. The videoconference event will involve an expert panel in Toronto working with students in several locations in Canada. Students will prepare a formal presentation describing their solutions to the original problem that they have researched and debated prior to the videoconference presentation. This will be shared with other participants in the project. Students will then have the chance to receive advice and feedback from the panel. The expert panel will include members of the judicial system and representatives of the various interest groups involved in the simulation

Just Act! Youth Justice Conference

The Just Act! Youth Leadership conference is held in Ottawa every spring, and brings together youth and educators from across the country to learn about human security issues and how to create effective awareness-raising and fundraising campaigns. Over three full days in Ottawa, the participants join presentations by experts in human security issues, workshops in leadership skills, and seminars about how creative arts like drama, music and video can enhance a campaign for global change, as well as hearing amazing speakers give their own perspectives on and experiences in activism.   For more info, check out the website.
