A huge congratulations goes out to Grade 11 student Schanze Sial from Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School for being selected for a prestigious NASA internship!

In January, Schanze applied for the STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) internship with NASA in collaboration with the University of Texas Center for Space Research. The application process required applicants to submit their academic records, a written application, an introduction video and a letter of recommendation.

Out of 600 applicants from around the world, Schanze was selected as one of 45 interns for the program!

Due to the current health situation, Schanze will be working with the Astronomy Department remotely to analyze and visualize data. She will be supporting ongoing NASA projects including Identifying Near Asteroid Hazards, Using Satellites for Emergency Preparedness, Measuring Environmental Changes with Altimetry, Observing Earth from Space, Explore the Moon and Mars Exploration.

“I’m excited to apply my skills and knowledge that I gained from SHSM Computer Science Classes in my internship,” said Schanze.

When it is safe to do so, Schanze and her fellow interns will be invited to spend a weekend with NASA scientists at the Johnson Space Centre in Houston Texas.

Congratulations again on this amazing accomplishment, Schanze!
