Every December, Ascension and St. Christopher Catholic Elementary School communities participate in the Senior Gift Bag Program through the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.

Students in Kindergarten to Grade 8, staff and members of the school communities are encouraged to fill two bags for donation – one with female items and another with male items. Donators are asked to fill the bags with items such as books, toiletries, accessories, tissue, socks and mittens.

In 2020, both schools together collected over 150 bags to support residents at Maple Villa Long Term Care Centre, Mount Nemo Christian Nursing Home, Wellington Park Care Centre and Chartwell Brant Centre Long Term Care Residence!

Students from both schools also created hundreds of Christmas cards filled with warm wishes to be distributed to residents at the homes.

In past years, students would also hand deliver the gift bags, sing Christmas carols and visit with the residents.

“We’ve been connecting with these local homes now for four years and it’s truly one of the highlights of the year,” said Chris Caporicci, Principal at Ascension Catholic Elementary School.

“It’s a remarkable opportunity for our students to be able to see their contributions being appreciated by recipients in need who live within our own community.”

Thank you to Ascension and St. Christopher school communities for giving back to those who need it most!
