On February 22-24, students in Grades 7-12 participated in Voyage Science’s STEM Careers Conference to learn more about careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

Voyage Science is an organization run by the International Baccalaureate (IB) students at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School. The goal of the organization is to enhance students’ understanding and appreciation of STEM.

The conference was organized by Grade 12 students Laith Bahodi, Edward Lombo, David Nguyen, and Dominique Kindaro. Also playing a critical role in the execution of the conference was Malaikah Hussain (Grade 12), and Grade 11 students Adriana Baric, Lara Dawood and Shanessa Furtado.

The conference featured esteemed professionals, innovative workshops and a university student panel.

Students enjoyed educational presentations by Dr. Giulio DiDiodato, Fadi Bahodi and Dr. Joanne Atlee. The speakers offered attendees insight into the day-to-day reality of their professions, and the pros and cons of each career path.

The conference also hosted an Introduction to Python Workshop and a Resume Writing Workshop that provided students with tangible skills to apply in their educational and professional careers.

The university student panel featured students from some of the most prestigious university programs in Canada. The panel helped students better understand the steps needed to prepare for the transition into university, offering tips on how to balance school responsibilities and their personal lives.

Approximately 900+ students from HCDSB and across Ontario attended the virtual conference!

Thank you to St. Thomas Aquinas students for organizing and executing such a successful conference!
