HCDSB celebrates a successful 2020-2021 year for the MindUP Program!
MindUP: The Goldie Hawn Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded to help children develop the knowledge and tools they need to manage stress and regulate emotions so that they can thrive in school, work and their social lives.
The Program focuses on four elements to promote positive mental health and wellbeing: neuroscience, social-emotional learning (SEL), positive psychology and mindful awareness.
There are four units that make up MindUP’s curriculum: ‘Getting Focused,’ ‘Sharpening our Senses,’ ‘It’s all About Attitude’ and ‘Taking Mindful Action.’
This year, 26 elementary schools across our Board participated in the MindUP Program!
Students engaged in activities such as breathing exercises, eating healthy snacks and writing ‘thank you’ cards for frontline workers in the Halton community to promote positive mindfulness with themselves and others.
“The MindUP Program allowed our students to open up and reflect in a safe space,” says Mrs. Baker, Grade 2 teacher at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Elementary School. “Our class loved the primary friendly language resources: books, videos and mindfulness activities which invited conversations and promoted dialogue. These activities allowed students to make connections to themselves and apply what they have learned in the real world.”
Congratulations, HCDSB students, teachers and parents on your learning success through the MindUP program this year!
