In June 2021, Colin McGillicuddy, Superintendent of Education (School Services), and Joe O’Hara, Executive Officer of Human Resources Services announced their intent to retire this summer.
Colin McGillicuddy, Superintendent of Education
Colin McGillicuddy, a graduate of Assumption Catholic Secondary School, has served our Board for 33 years as a Secondary Teacher, Secondary Vice Principal, Secondary Principal at St. Thomas Aquinas, Holy Trinity and Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary Schools and as Superintendent of Education.
Colin is well-regarded across our system, and is known as a passionate, faith-filled Catholic educator and leader. He is an advocate for our students with a strong belief that through our collective efforts, we can meet the needs of all learners.
As a member of the senior staff team, Colin has encouraged us in our decision making to value and promote the dignity of all pathways for our students and has built a dedicated team within his Student Success portfolio who will continue with the excellent work that he has been a part of developing.
As a teacher, school administrator and Superintendent, Colin has impacted hundreds of staff and thousands of students during his career in Halton Catholic.
Joe O’Hara, Executive Officer of Human Resources Services
Joe O’Hara joined our Board in December 2001 as Senior Manager of Human Resources Services and was subsequently promoted to Executive Officer of Human Resources Services.
As the most senior member of our senior staff team, Joe has provided a historical background and institutional memory in all of our discussions. And while his perspective is always focused on his area of expertise – human resources – it is also always centred around what is good for Catholic education.
Throughout his career, Joe has also shared his knowledge and expertise at a provincial level. In 2013, Joe was seconded to the Ministry of Education as the Director, Operations – Education Labour Relations Division. He has also been very involved at the provincial negotiations table through his work with the Ontario Catholic School Trustees Association (OCSTA). Joe has served on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Catholic School Business Officials Association (OCSBOA) for a number of years, including two years as President of OCSBOA. He is also an active member of the Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers Association (OCSOA), the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) and the Ontario Association of School Business Officials (OASBO), and has mentored several new Supervisory Officers and Human Resources professionals.
Joe maintains a strong personal faith, and is a passionate advocate for Catholic education.
Colin and Joe will be greatly missed both as part of the Senior Administration team and across our system. We are grateful for their many contributions to Catholic education and wish them both many blessings in their future endeavours.
