From September 10-19, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) celebrates Welcoming Week, an international celebration that brings together new and long-time residents to build strong connections and foster a sense of belonging.
The Welcome Centre at the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) is committed to creating inclusive, safe and welcoming environments for all of our newcomer families.
During the 2021-2022 school year, the Welcome Centre has received over 198 new families in our schools, and with the support of Youth and Family Settlement Workers and Assessors, the families have received services to help integrate into our schools and their community.
We invite you to be part of this year’s Welcoming Week celebration by promoting stories of inclusion, connection and understanding. You can participate by showing how your school creates welcoming spaces that help everyone, including immigrants, feel safe and accepted by using the hashtags #HCDSBWelcomingWeek and #HCDSBbelonging on Twitter!
This week, and every day, let’s work to make all students, staff and families feel a sense of belonging in our schools.
