Background Information

Our Vision of Catholic Education

The Halton Catholic District School Board is a model learning community, widely recognized as distinctively Catholic, providing exceptional education, while nurturing the call to love and to serve as a people of faith, living out God's plan.
Our schools have strong links to parishes and assist the parishes with sacramental preparation, while chaplains and parish staff conduct liturgies and provide other services to our schools.

About the Board

The Halton Catholic District School Board provides exceptional educational experiences and services to over 30,000 students of all ages. God’s call to love and to serve is nurtured in staff and students in 46 elementary schools, 9 secondary schools and 3 continuing education facilities, serving the communities of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, and Oakville. As a provincial leader in student achievement in literacy and numeracy, as well as Special Education, the Board is an exciting and dynamic place to learn, work, and grow.

Nine trustees are elected to the Halton Catholic District School Board by Catholic school supporters in Halton:
  • 3 trustees in Burlington
  • 1 trustee in Halton Hills
  • 1 trustee in Milton
  • 4 trustees in Oakville
Trustees in Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville are elected at large, while Burlington trustees are elected by wards (1 & 2, 3 & 6, 4 & 5). Three student representatives (1 from Burlington, 1 from North Halton (Halton Hills/Milton) and 1 from Oakville) are appointed annually by the Board to represent the interests of students.

While the Board of Trustees establishes policy, the Director of Education through his administrative team, is responsible for day-to-day operational issues.
