Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn's Visit to St. Dominic School Kindergarten Program

Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn visited the Kindergarten students and staff at St. Dominic Catholic Elementary School to announce that more schools will have Full-Day Kindergarten beginning September 2012.

Joining the MPP in this visit to the school were: Alice Anne LeMay, Oakville Trustee and Chair of the Board; Ed Viana, Oakville Trustee; Michael Pautler, Director of Education; and Jacqueline Herman, Superintendent of Education.

“We are pleased to move forward with the implementation of the Ministry’s Full-Day Kindergarten program, with nine additional schools to offer the program across our Board for the 2012-2013 school year,” said Michael Pautler, Director of Education, Halton Catholic District School Board.

To ensure schools are ready to welcome students, school boards will receive funding from the Ministry for major capital projects, such as additions, where new Kindergarten space is required and other minor renovations as needed.

“I know many local families are benefiting from Full-Day Kindergarten this year,” said Flynn. “Every year, even more children and their families are going to have access to this innovative new program, giving them a stronger start and a better chance for future success.”

Currently, in the first year of implementation, our Board offers the Full-day Early Learning Kindergarten Program in seven schools. In Year 2 of implementation, three additional schools will be added bringing the total to 10 schools. In Year 3, our Board will add nine additional schools bringing the total to 19 schools. This represents nearly half of the total number of schools in the system.
