Walking Forward Together for Catholic Education Week 2017

The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) will be joining school boards across the province of Ontario in celebrating Catholic Education Week, from April 30 - May 5, 2017.

This year, Catholic Education Week begins with Eucharistic Celebrations on Sunday, April 30th. Throughout the week, students, staff, parents and members across our Board will participate in a variety of events and activities to honour this yearly occasion.

Highlights of the Week

Monday, May 1 – Breaking Bread Together: Kindergarten students and parents from Queen of Heaven Catholic Elementary School will kick-off Catholic Education Week through "Breaking Bread Together". A celebratory potluck of goods from their diverse cultural backgrounds will take place. The event will conclude with prayer and songs celebrating our shared faith.

Tuesday, May 2 - Walking Forward Together with our Families: Parents with kindergarten students from St. Anne Catholic Elementary School are invited to create Inuksuit together and participate in Indigenous cultural activities.

Wednesday, May 3 - Uncovering the Top 10 Facts about Pope Francis: Grade 5 students from St. Marguerite d'Youville Catholic Elementary School will gather to uncover many fascinating facts about Pope Francis.

Thursday, May 4 - Our 8th Annual Walk With Jesus: students and staff from each of our elementary and secondary schools will walk together, to demonstrate our ‘faith in action’ from Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School to the Mattamy National Cycling Centre (Milton Velodrome). Mass will be led by Father Cornelius (Con) O’Mahony at the Milton Velodrome, beginning at 12:20 p.m. Participants can join the conversation on Twitter #HCWWJ and watch a live wall of Tweets.

Friday, May 5 - Jean Vanier (JV) Arts Showcase: The arts department is planning an exhibit at Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School. Students will spend the morning walking through an art display that showcases artwork from Jean Vanier student artists, while the JV Band and Choir will provide music for the event. Students will then make their way into the theatre for a performance by the senior Musical Theatre class.
