On Thursday, June 8, 2017, Connecting Generations through Technology Celebration Day took place at Birkdale Place Retirement Community in Milton, Ontario.

In partnership with the Ministry of Senior Affairs Ontario, the goal of the Connecting Generations through Technology program is to facilitate intergenerational mentorship between students and local seniors, while increasing awareness of new forms of technology.

This year, the program invited seniors from Birkdale Place Retirement Community to share their stories and life experiences with students from St. Benedict Catholic Elementary School, who then captured these moments through video recordings and photos, creating a digital keepsake.

Milton Mayor, Gordon Krantz and Director of Education, Paula Dawson attended this day of celebration. Director Dawson brought greetings on behalf of the Halton Catholic District School Board and the Halton Industry Education Council.

A special thank you to Halton Industry Education Council (HIEC), Birkdale staff and residents, and staff and students of St. Benedict Catholic Elementary School for working together to build connections!

"As Director of Education, it's also important for us as a school district to educate our students for life. We want our students to be good citizens, good stewards of resources and good servants to our neighbours." - Paula Dawson, Director of Education
