HCDSB Students, Staff and Families Raise Over $20,000 in Support of Canada's Famine Relief Fund

We are pleased to announce that the HCDSB community raised a total of $20,366.46 in support of the Government of Canada's Famine Relief Fund, as part of a board-wide toonie collection.

For every donation made between March 17 and June 30, 2017, the federal government will contribute an equal amount, which means that donations from HCDSB will be doubled!

According to the United Nations, famine has been recognized as one of the world's largest humanitarian crises since the Second World War. In response to Bishop Crosby's call to action during the month of June, students, staff, parents and the greater HCDSB community collected donations for those affected by malnutrition in South Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, and Nigeria.

"As a Catholic faith community, we come together to provide support to children and families in need across the world," says Paula Dawson, Director of Education. "We are thankful for the generous donations provided by our students, staff, and families to support this cause."

Thank you to our school communities and staff for supporting Canada's Famine Relief Fund this year! For more information, please visit the Diocese of Hamilton's website and 'How the Famine Relief Fund works' on the Government of Canada's website.
