Throughout July 2017, over 50 newcomers and International Language Students participated in the Newcomer Teen Summer Program, organized by the Halton Catholic District School Board's Youth Settlement Team.

Students gathered four times a week during the summer month to participate in engaging activities, while simultaneously developing their English oral language skills. Some activities included learning various types of dance, photography, clay painting, teddy bear-making, and mask-making.

Students also enjoyed several trips to different locations and landmarks in the Greater Toronto Area. Along with fun outings to laser tag and bowling, day trips included expeditions to visit the CN Tower, the Royal Botancial Gardens, Ireland House, the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, and Niagara Falls.

Over the course of the month, students successfully built both friendships and the confidence in their ability to communicate with others in English.
