On Wednesday, October 11, 2017, Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School in Burlington hosted the Joe Luciani Memorial Game versus St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School Raiders.

Joe Luciani served as a mentor and leader of Catholic education for many years with the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB). He was the Vice-Principal of Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School, before becoming the Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School.

“Papa Joe”, as he was fondly referred to, passed away suddenly this summer and will be dearly missed.

On October 11th, family, friends, students, parents, staff, the Knights of Columbus, and members of the community gathered to honour and pay tribute to Joe and his many contributions to our school district.

In honour of Joe, Notre Dame hosted a junior football game at 3:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service on the Notre Dame field. A senior football game took place with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish versus the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders, which concluded the day.

Proceeds from the memorial game will be used towards the Joe Luciani Memorial Scholarship and the Joe Luciani: Pay It Forward Award, offered through the Knights of Columbus.

Thank you to family, friends, coworkers, players and coaches for gathering to celebrate a man of great honour, who inspired and motivated our students through his passion and love of the game.
