A Renewal Plan for Assumption Catholic Secondary School

We are pleased to announce that a renewal project will commence at Assumption Catholic Secondary School during the 2018-2019 school year.

The Ministry of Education has approved the Board’s request to expand the Assumption Catholic Secondary School facility, which was a vital first step in order to proceed with this project.

Accommodation Plan

  • The Board secured a temporary school site to accommodate the Assumption School community during construction.
  • In consultation with the Halton District School Board (HDSB), an agreement was reached to allow the Halton Catholic District School Board to utilize Lester B. Pearson High School as a temporary school site.
  • Assumption students and staff will be temporarily relocated to Lester B. Pearson High School for second semester of the 2018-2019 school year.

Next Steps

The Board of Trustees will vote on May 15, 2018 to approve the renewal project budget and allow staff to proceed with capital planning. If approved on May 15th, members of the Assumption Catholic School community and prospective students and families will be invited to upcoming information sessions later this month.

The sessions will provide an overview of the renovation plan, important details on the proposed timelines, and an opportunity to ask any questions. The date and time of the information sessions will be communicated separately after May 15.

Quick Facts

  • A Parent Information Session on the Assumption Facility Renewal Project took place on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, inviting parents, students, staff, and members of the community to learn more about the upcoming renewal plans.
  • Assumption Catholic Secondary School opened in 1980, with building additions in 1992 and 2001, and an artificial turf sports field added in 2009.

“We are thrilled to begin this renewal project and addition for Assumption Catholic Secondary School, and we would like to thank the Halton District School Board for their support in this initiative as we work together to support students and their learning needs through this accommodation plan.” – Tim Overholt, Superintendent of Education
