Assumption Students Recipients of Prestigious Scholarships

Grade 12 students Tommy Moffat, Bethany Smethurst, and Sasha Y. from Assumption Catholic Secondary School​ have all received prestigious scholarships as they pursue their post-secondary studies this coming fall.

Tommy Moffat is the recipient of a $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship​ to study at the University of Toronto. This scholarship is awarded to 50 high school graduates enrolling in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) undergraduate program. The scholarship allows students to focus on their studies, research projects and extracurriculars free of financial burden.

Bethany Smethurst, a Grade 12 Advanced Placement (AP) student at Assumption has received the Bank of Montreal Award in the amount of $40,000 to study Health Sciences at Queen’s University. Students awarded with this scholarship demonstrate superior academic ability, proven leadership, and school and community involvement.

Sasha Y., also a Grade 12 AP student, will be heading to Smith College in North Hampton, Massachusetts, to pursue her studies in Computer and Data Science. She is the recipient of a financial grant in the amount of $84,000 per year for the four years she will be attending. Sasha will also be competing on Smith College’s NCAA Division III swim team.
