Congratulations to Sulaiman Alshami from Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School and Alexis Pereira from Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Elementary School for placing 3rd in this year’s COSTI Refugees & Human Rights Child & Youth Poetry Contest.

COSTI Immigrant Services Poetry Contest invited students in Grades 4 to 12 across Ontario to write a poem in line with the theme “Refugees and Human Rights”. The objective of COSTI’s poetry contest is to bring greater attention to human rights and the plight of refugees.

Sulaiman’s poem, ‘Different World’ addresses the hope of living in a world where all people, especially refugees, are treated with equity, dignity, and respect. Alexis’ poem ‘The Boat People’ is about a young child’s journey on the open seas.

Sulaiman and Alexis will be recognized on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at a virtual ceremony in honour of World Refugee Day.

Congratulations again, Sulaiman and Alexis!
