The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) joins school boards across Ontario in recognizing Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week from November 18 through November 24, 2018.

On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, Halton Catholic staff and students gathered at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School for the 2018 Bullying Prevention Launch: "See the Problem, Be the Solution".

The year-long campaign began for HCDSB in 2010 as the 'Give Respect, Get Respect School Challenge', in partnership with the Halton Regional Police Services, to address bullying prevention and awareness.

The 2018 See the Problem, Be the Solution campaign encourages Grades 6-12 students to develop creative arts-based public service messages that promote equity and diversity, personal well-being, and building positive school climates. Entries are due in February, 2019 and student finalists will be recognized at a Final Gala at Corpus Christi in April 2019.

During Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week and throughout the year, all Halton Catholic schools will:

  • Develop awareness and understanding of the factors that contribute to a safe, inclusive, caring and accepting school climate.
  • Address equity and diversity, and building positive spaces at school and in their peer groups.
  • Identify different types of bullying, including cyber-bullying.
  • Identify how biases, prejudice and hate can lead to bullying.
  • Identify different manifestations and underlying factors of bullying, such as body image, racism, sexism, homophobia, disability, etc.
