JV Student Attends SOMA Conference at UofT!

Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School Grade 12 student, Faizan Khan, attended the 47th annual Southern Ontario Model United Nations Assembly (SOMA) at the University of Toronto from April 24-26, 2019.

SOMA is a three-day simulation that gives high school students the opportunity to gain a better understanding of international relations in the wider community. Faizan was 1 of 10 chosen delegates to attend the conference on a full scholarship!

This year’s simulation allowed students to assume the roles of United Nations (UN) representatives, and debate important issues with other delegates for resolution. The goal was to give students a deeper insight into the dynamics and inner mechanisms of the UN, and encourage them to develop their problem-solving skills with issues of global concern.

On May 25, 2019, the delegates were invited to attend a special awards dinner at the Canadian Minister of Finance's home, Chrystia Freeland!

Congratulations, Faizan, for being chosen for the scholarship, and for representing HCDSB at the SOMA conference!
