Proposed 2020-2021 School Year Calendar Now Approved
 
 



At the Special Board Meeting held on July 8, 2020, the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) approved revisions to the 2020-2021 proposed School Year Calendar. The revised 2020-2021 School Year Calendar has now received final approval from the Ministry of Education.

The initial School Year Calendar was approved by our Board of Trustees at the March 31, 2020 Board Meeting​.

The first day of school for Halton Catholic students will be on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Kindergarten start dates will vary, as entry into Kindergarten is a gradual process.​

The 2020-2021 Professional Activity (P.A.) days are: September 1, 2020; September 2, 2020; September 3, 2020; November 27, 2020; February 5, 2021; April 23, 2021; June 4, 2021 (elementary schools only), and June 29, 2021 (secondary schools only).

Quick Facts:

  • The 2020-2021 School Year Calendar consists of 187 instructional days
  • Three (3) mandatory Provincial Priority P.A. days are scheduled prior to the first day of school and will be devoted to criteria established by the Ministry of Education. Topics will include: health and safety, COVID-19 preparations, mathematics instruction, bullying prevention and intervention, and de-escalation training.
  • The school year calendar was developed through the work of the Board's School Year Calendar Committee, comprised of a parent representative of the Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC), OECTA Unit Presidents (elementary and secondary), CUPE 3166 and 5200 representatives, Principal Association representatives, and 1 Trustee.
  • The dates for secondary school examinations will be determined at a later date, once more information about the return to school has been finalized by the Ministry of Education
