The students at St. Raphael Catholic Elementary are doing their part this year to ensure that children worldwide have a joyful Christmas.

The St. Raphael Community have collected items in support of Operation Christmas Child through the Samaritan’s Purse Organization. Operation Christmas Child is a hands-on initiative for Canadians to bless struggling children in the developing world by filling shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and other items.

“My family makes 2 shoeboxes every year as a tradition. One for a girl, and one for a boy,” said Keira Anderson, a Grade 5 student from St. Raphael. "I saw kids in Sudan and Africa who got shoeboxes filled with toys and they were so excited! I wanted to do something to help.”

The school’s goal was that each class filled two shoeboxes. The St. Raphael community were able to exceed this goal with a total number of 90 shoeboxes! The donations were dropped off on November 14 to a collection site to then be delivered to students globally.

Congratulations St. Raphael on a successful initiative, and for your generosity and support this Christmas season, and always!
