Wishing You and Your Family a Happy & Healthy Thanksgiving
A Thanksgiving message from the Director of Education.

“To be grateful is to recognize the love of God in everything he has given us—and he has given us everything.” (Thomas Merton)

Faith and gratitude are closely linked, and as a Catholic community, Thanksgiving provides a unique opportunity to reflect quietly on our relationship with God, grateful for His presence, and the many blessings He has brought into our lives.

It has been a very challenging time for everyone as we live, work and learn through a global pandemic. In the midst of all the ongoing changes, the uncertainty and the angst, our schools continue to offer a quality Catholic education while nurturing safe and welcoming spaces in our community. This does not just happen. It is a reflection of a vibrant partnership of home, school, and parish - where each member is working together towards the same goal – meeting the needs of our students.  The compassion and generosity that all members of our HCDSB community have demonstrated to each other, and to the wider community, has been remarkable, and the true hallmark of our Catholic school system.

I feel very blessed to be a part of this Catholic education community.

I am grateful for the over 4400 staff members who serve our school district. We have asked much of them over the past several months, and they have risen to every new challenge with a level of dedication and generosity of spirit that is inspirational.

I am particularly grateful for the steady leadership that is in place in each of our schools and across our system. Our school administrators have been working around the clock to meet the ongoing challenges that continue to evolve almost daily. They are providing a sense of stability for students, families and staff as they navigate through very difficult times.

And I am thankful for the ongoing support and understanding of the more than 20,000 parents and guardians who have entrusted us with their children’s education. Families have been faced with some very difficult decisions this year, and as the landscape continues to change, we will continue to rely on the partnership between home and school to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students by providing a quality Catholic education that is flexible, safe, welcoming and inclusive.

I wish you and your loved ones a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving. As always, I am keeping all of our students, families and staff in my thoughts and prayers.
