At the April 19th Regular Meeting of the Board, Trustees made a final decision regarding the Pupil Accommodation Review (School Consolidation) for North Georgetown.

The proposed Georgetown North accommodation plan was approved as follows:

1) That Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School and St. Francis of Assisi be consolidated into the North Georgetown Community Catholic Elementary School for the 2017-2018 school year, at the earliest;

2) That North Georgetown Catholic Elementary School be located on the Board owned Berton Boulevard site, and the constructed facility be comprised of a 671 pupil place elementary school with an 88 space five (5) room child care centre wing, slated to open for the 2017-2018 school year, at the earliest;

3) That the Board re-direct all programs currently offered at the two schools to the new North Georgetown Catholic Elementary School;

4) That following the completion of the North Georgetown Catholic Elementary School construction project, Board shall close both Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School and St. Francis of Assisi School Catholic Elementary School and re-direct students to the new school.

Please note that all of the above actions are contingent on Ministry approval. We cannot begin the next steps in this process (transition planning) until we have received approval to proceed from the Ministry of Education.

This decision may take several weeks, but we will follow up with parents from Holy Cross and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Elementary Schools once we have heard back from the Ministry of Education.


​On January 19, 2016, the Board approved the initiation of the North Georgetown Pupil Accommodation Review (PAR).

The following are the affected schools:

As outlined in Section 2 of Operating Policy I-09: School Accommodation Reviews – Consolidation/Closures, a modified pupil accommodation review process may be initiated by the Board of Trustees where two (2) or more of the listed criteria have been met.
The North Georgetown Community Accommodation Review Area is eligible for the Modified Accommodation Review Process as it meets the following two (2) criteria: 
  1. A) Distance to the nearest available accommodation is within 5 kilometers.
  2. E) There are no more than three (3) schools subject to the pupil accommodation review process.
The distance between the two (2) schools is summarized in the table below.

Further to meeting at least two (2) criteria, staff believes a modified process is warranted for the North Georgetown Community as the proposed solution would have moderate impacts on the school’s student community, whereby predominant impact will be limited to a relocation of their existing school to a potentially more distant location. School communities will not be separated, and instead combined.

Option Summary

Staff recommends that the following actions be taken within the North Georgetown Community accommodation review area:
  • Construct a 671 pupil place elementary facility on the Berton Street site located in West Georgetown (currently owned by the Board and purchased in 2004) slated for opening on September 2017, using a 21st Century Learning model as adopted in the Board’s most recent school projects;
  • Outreach to approved community partners of the Board for potential co-build projects, such as a new child-care facility or other community facilities operations;
  • Close both Holy Cross CES and St. Francis of Assisi CES existing facilities, and re-direct the entire student populations to the newly constructed Georgetown West CES – all attendance boundaries consolidated into one;
  • Re-direct all existing programs offered at both (2) affected schools to the new Georgetown West facility; and
  • Dispose of both Holy Cross CES and St. Francis of Assisi CES school facilities through the Ontario Regulation 444/968 disposition process, whereby proceeds of the sale be directed to the Board’s Proceeds of Disposition (POD) reserve for future renewal projects.

Based on the Option Development Criteria, as outlined in Section 2.7, Table 1, of the North Georgetown Community Modified Pupil Accommodation Review Report, staff believes that the proposed Georgetown West CES Replacement Facility meets the criteria in full. The table below provides a summary of the criteria.
