Mary's Song of Praise

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed

Luke1: 46-48

Welcome to St. Mary Catholic Elementary School!

We are very excited to be in our second year at our beautiful new school named in honour of our Blessed Mother. St. Mary also shares the distinction of being named in recognition of the very first Catholic school to open in the Halton Catholic District School Board in 1856. The original St. Mary's School was situated on the grounds of St. Andrew's Catholic Church on Reynolds street in Oakville and was founded by Robin Smith and Fr. Morgan Rex-Ryan. The original building was eventually demolished in order to make room for a growing parish community.

On September 5th, 2012, approximately 350 students, their families and 30 staff entered through the doors of St. Mary and joined together to celebrate the gift of Catholic education. God blessed us abundantly with faith and hope as we awaited the fulfillment of his plan...

In our second year we now have approximately 495 students in attendance at St. Mary Catholic Elementary School! We have welcomed many more staff members as well as a brand new Grade 1 French Immersion Program. Our school continues to be known as a place where everyone is welcomed and where students coming from all over the world find a common faith story and an education rooted in the Gospel.

Curriculum Focus

The staff of St. Mary Catholic School is dedicated to ensuring that each and every student has the opportunity to achieve success. We have set high academic expectations and standards for our students and with rich opportunities and appropriate support, our students will prove their ability to rise to the challenge. Grade level Focus on Faith themes are embedded in daily teacher-student learning and we continue to focus on small group differentiated instruction with an emphasis on assessment for/of and as learning. In addition, each grade chooses specific Learning Skills to focus on and address each term to ensure understanding and encourage goal setting.

Environmental Focus

At St. Mary Catholic School we embrace our responsibility as stewards of the earth. In our very first year we acheived Gold Status as a registered Ontario Eco-School and continue to work diligently to maintain a high degree of awareness regarding our responsibility s citizens of Oakville. Our students and staff work to reduce waste through the organization of Waste Free Wednesdays and various Eco-Projects determined in consultation with the St. Mary Student Council.

Parent Community Involvement

We are very blessed at St. Mary Catholic School to have many involved parents who assist in classrooms, deliver Cozy Reading programs, manage the milk and hot lunch programs, serve on the Catholic School Council and its committees and who share their many gifts and talents with our staff and students. If you have a particular area of interest or a talent to share with our community, please bring it to the attention of the office. Our school is greatly enriched when our parents are engaged both at school and at home!

All volunteers are required to obtain a Police Check and keep it on file in the school
